“Kenyan kids deserve no less than this”
Miriam Sevy never thought an x-ray machine would make her cry—until she traveled to Kenya with a group of fellow PATH supporters.
Through the lens of PATH’s work, Miriam saw how the country is changing. Women eagerly walk two hours to learn better care for their babies. Couples learn new behaviors to protect each other against HIV. Kenya’s health services are improving, giving hundreds of thousands of children and adults a chance at a healthy life.
During a tour of a clinic where PATH is supporting clinical trials of the world’s most advanced malaria vaccine candidate, Miriam had a revelation.
Participants and their families receive free medical care as part of the trial. In stark contrast to the Kenyan facilities she saw, this clinic had running water, good ventilation, and—the crowning glory—a fully equipped x-ray room.
When she saw that, Miriam says, “I suddenly realized: Kenyan kids deserve no less than this.”
“The work PATH is doing is the most important work.”
